LESLEY GORE JOINS ENGINE COMPANY
This chart topping artist known for such hits as "It's My Party," "You Don't Own Me,"
"Out Here On My Own," and many others, joins Engine Company with her first studio album in
nearly thirty years. The album, currently in production, features songs from Mike Errico,
Shimmerplanet's John Fischer, Blake Morgan, and of course, Lesley herself. The band --
Jonathan Ellinghaus (drums), John Turner (bass), Mike Errico (guitars) and Blake Morgan
(piano) -- features Engine Company's core, and displays a lush, smoky vision behind Lesley's
astonishing vocals. Stay tuned for more news as this historic album comes together.
Dates to watch for!
March 30 will be the 40th anniversary of the release of "It's My Party".
May 2 is Lesley's birthday.
Lesley, along with other stars including Lou Christie, will be on

7th, will benefit the Helen Keller Worldwide Charity Foundation. Lesley is also to
appear on a PBS special, "Let's Do It Again". The air time for this is not known.
Check out the progress on Lesley's

Award winning impressionist artist Lorell Butler has sent me
four pictures of her artwork. To see them, click on Lesley's Picture Gallery,
then on Visitors Pictures and Fan Artwork, part 2, or click
here.
New CD's by Lesley? Word is that she has been working on a Chistmas
CD, and on a CD of "her songs", including the new "millennium" version of "You Don't
Own Me", which she has been doing in concerts lately. It has gotten raves from fans
who have heard it.
An official site for Lesley Gore? Yep, it's coming! The domain
(www.lesleygore.com) has already been established, as has the service provider
(planetnet.com). So it's only a matter of time!

US Fan Clubs for the month of April.
Lesley fulfills a childhood wish tonight as she opens
on Broadway. See Lesley's Appearances for more
info. The NY Post had this to say about it:
The hottest tickets on Broadway right now are for the two weeks, beginning
tomorrow night, when dynamite Lesley Gore guest stars in the long-running
"Smokey Joe's Cafe". Gore is riding the '60s pop revival and draws huge
crowds across the nation. The little girl with the big voice recently wowed
them in Nashville, where she appeared on a bill with the likes of Graham
Nash, Mac Davis, Paul Williams, and Jackson Brown. The Tennessean newspaper's
review called Gore's performance "one of the night's biggest surprises",
and compared her to Judy Garland.
See the Tennessean review they mentioned here.
Sorry, folks, Lesley will NOT be going on the cruise
to Mexico and Honduras as reported previously. Watch the "Lesley's Appearances"
section for more appearance info, though.
Today is Lesley's birthday. Happy birthday, Lesley!
I've added the cover and an interesting article from
the September 1963 issue of "Song Hits" Magazine to the Picture Gallery.

Here is a brief review from Jack about Lesley's appearance
at Queens Theater in the Park.
Lesley started at 3 pm and sang for 45 minutes. Then there was a 15
minute intermission, Lesley changed outfits, and returned to do another
50 minutes! She sang almost every song she did at all the Rainbow and Stars
shows. She looked and sounded fantastic and the show was sold out! Despite
the horrible weather, it was a real treat! -- Jack

here.
They have a lot of 50's and 60's memorabilia for sale, including two audio
tape collections of songs from live TV appearances by various stars. Both
sets have Lesley Gore on them. For track listings and ordering instructions,
click here. To see Memory Go-Rounds main page,
go here.
There's another Lesley Gore site on the web. Check out
Craig's
Lesley Gore Page. Craig is 13, and has done a fine job.

has email! His email address is jacknatoli@prodigy.net.
Looking for a track listing for a particular CD? There
is a new web service called the CD Database,
which is attempting to have track listings for every CD ever published.
I put a link to them on the main page, at "Lesley's Discography".
There's a new Lesley Gore site on the web! Check out
Gary Koonz's new site here.
We won! This site won "Out of the Shadows" site of the
week! Thanks to all who voted. The award was given late due to the illness
of Danielle's grandmother. Danielle operates the Shadows ring, and if you
would like to email her a message of sympathy, click here.
Pollstar
is now reporting Lesley's tour dates. According to them, she will be at
the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines on the 15th of August, and at the Kentucky
State Fair in Louisville on the 25th of August.
I have added the Ultimate
Band List's Lesley Gore pages to my links. They have the same biography
as the All-Music Guide, but a different picture. They also have a link
to Pollstar and other links.
This page has a new easy-to-remember URL: http://listen.to/lesley.
The old URL still works, and must be used if you want to access one of
the sub-pages. For example, if you wanted to access the discography directly,
you would use http://www.flash.net/~pswayne/lesdisc.htm. The new URL points
only to the Flash Net site, not the Xoom mirror site.
I have the mysterious missing lyrics
to "Just Let Me Cry". These are some additional lyrics that were written,
but not used in the recorded song.
This site has been nominated for "Out of the Shadows"
site of the week. Now it's time to vote! To do this, go here
and vote for "A Tribute to Lesley Gore". And while you are there, please
nominate my Melanie Safka site for next week's contest. Just put this in
the Nomination blank: "A Tribute to Melanie Safka (http://www.flash.net/~pswayne/melanie.htm)".
A fan found this
page while surfing around. There are two stories about Lesley here.
Help this site become the "Out of the Shadows" site of
the week. The first step is to nominate it. To do this, go here,
vote for one of the sites in the current nominations, and put the following
in the Nomination blank: "A Tribute to Lesley Gore (http://www.flash.net/~pswayne/lgore.htm)".
Note: you must vote for one of the current nominations in order for your
nomination to count.
VH1 is going to show "The Girls On The Beach" again this
friday night, at 8 pm Eastern time.
The Rhino anthology, "Sunshine, Lollypops and Rainbows"
is now scheduled to be released on the 14th of July.
I have modified my page to make it more user friendly
for vision impared persons. The various pages are now accessable via text
links as well as the original graphic buttons.
For confirmation that Lesley will be in "A Capitol Fourth",
go here and click on images.
The PBS satellite will feed this show at 8 pm and 10:30 pm Eastern time
on the Fourth. Be sure to check your listings to see when your PBS station
will show it (they may tape-delay it to any time, such as 9 pm).
Lesley will perform in concert for the annual "A Capitol
Fourth" July 4th celebration in Washington. The show will be nationally
televised by PBS on the evening of July 4, 1998. Check your listings. Not
all PBS stations will carry this show at the same time, and some will precede
it with last year's special. (Frank Dixon gave me the original news
of this, and I looked up the show to try to get the time. PBS's own site
does not list Lesley on the show, but they don't list everybody on it.
Lesley's upcoming appearances:
21-June-1998
I have added an article on how to care for and preserve
phonograph records. Link to it here or in Lesley's
Music.
Word is that the new Rhino anthology has been delayed
due to legal problems. The lawyers are at it again, folks.
My guestbook filled up (250 entry limit), so I started
a new one. You can still read the old one.
Rhino Records new anthology, "Sunshine, Lollypops and
Rainbows" came out yesterday. If there are any noteworthy tracks on it,
I'll put an update here.
I have added some captured images from the Quincy Jones
special that was on TV in April, and from the movie "The Girls on the Beach".
Sorry about the poor quality. Someday I will get a better capture device
and do them again.
I received word today from Jack Natoli, Lesley's Fan
Club President, that Lesley's Father has passed away. I had heard a rumor
concerning this previously, but didn't want to say anything until I had
official word. If you want to send a card or message of condolence, send
it to
Lesley Gore
and mark it "Personal -- Please forward". This is the fan
club address, but Jack will see that everything gets to Lesley.

The VH1 cable network will show the move "Girls On The
Beach" on Friday May 29 at 9 pm Eastern (6 pm Pacific). Lesley is in this
movie, along with some other rock and roll stars.
Lesley's Place makes the newspapers! This site was mentioned
in Svenska Dagbladet, a major Swedish daily newspaper.
The server this page is on was down from early Wednesday
morning until Thursday evening. To keep the site available if that happens
again, I have mirrored it at two locations. They are http://www.flash.net/~pswayne/lgore.htm
and http://members.xoom.com/pswayne/lgore.htm.
From Frank Dixon: Lesley will be appearing July 11th
at Foxwoods Resort & Casino in Ledford, Conn., with Martha Reeves and
Ronnie Spector, in a show called "Legendary Ladies." The tickets
go on sale May 22nd and are $35 and $25.
Lesley will be the featured artist on the May 17 broadcast
of Dick Clark's radio program, "Rock, Roll and Remember." Stations broadcast
this program at different times, so check your local listings for time
and station.
Threre'a a new addition to the links
section. It's an interview with Lesley from People Online magazine.
Just picked up a copy of "Grease Is The Word". Words
can't describe how good this is! You GOTTA get one! Congrats to Rhino on
doing a SUPURB job! Our Lesley sounds like she's 16 again, and everyone
else also sounds great!
Happy Birthday Lesley!
From Jim Allio: Just a reminder that this Tuesday, May
5, 1998, Rhino Records' "Grease Is the Word" is released, featuring Lesley
singing four of that classic show's songs in new recordings done in L.A.
in March...PLUS! June 16, Rhino issues "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows:
The Best of Lesley Gore," a new, 20-track compilation featuring recordings
culled from her stint with Mercury. Rhino promises an excellent essay,
rare archival photos, remastered sound, and the track listing includes
most of the hits from "Party" through "Brink of Disaster," but no singles
after "Brink." A couple of b-sides and a couple of LP-only cuts are thrown
in for good measure...and the hits just keep on comin'!(Track info courtesy
of Lesley's fan club president, Jack Natoli)
Saturday, May 2, is Lesley's birthday. I don't know if
she surfs the web, but it might be a nice touch anyway to leave a birthday
wish in the guest book (click here to do it now).
Also, we kind of let it slip by, but this month was the 35 anniversary
of the release of "It's My Party".
Several more new pictures added.
I have added two new sections to Lesley's Discography.
The first is called "Collections featuring Lesley Gore (new recordings)",
and has one entry: the new Grease CD due to be released on May 5th. The
complete track listing is there -- Lesley has 4 solos and is in the ensemble
that sings "We Go Together". The other section is called "Collections featuring
Lesley Gore (pre-released material)", and has several entries.
New pictures! See the Visitors Pictures section of Lesley's
Picture Gallery, bottom 3 rows.
Lesley will be one of the performers in Richard Nader’s
Doo Wop Spectacular IX at the Continental Airlines Arena at the Meadowlands
Sports Complex in New Jersey at 8 pm on June 20th. For more information,
see the Meadowlands web page.
Lesley will be at the Sunset Station Hotel and Casino
Outdoor Ampitheater in Las Vegas (Henderson) on May 23, 1998 at 8 pm.
I have added a link to a new Lesley Gore page (Vince's
page) in Lesley's Links.
Lesley will be a guest on "Quincy Jones...The First 50
Years" on ABC-TV on Saturday, April 11 at 8pm Eastern time.
I have added a chat room to Lesley's Place. If you would
like to set up a regularly scheduled chat time, please let me know.
Lesley will be at the Contintal Airlines Arena at the
Meadowlands in New Jersey on June 20th. It will be a big 60's show, with
a number of 60's stars. Tickets are $29.50.
I found more info on Lesley's upcoming Detroit concert
on May 16. It will be at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts in Clinton
Township.
More on the Murphy Brown show.
In this show, Murphy is turning 50, so Frank (Joe Regalbuto) takes
her to a 50's party. At the party are Dick Clark, Chubby Checker, Lesley
Gore and Fabian (playing themselves). Pat Swayne's prediction: Murphy will
break into tears at the party, and then say "It's my party and I'll cry
if I want to." Still no clue as to whether Lesley will sing on the show
or not.
Lesley will be on the Murphy Brown show on April 6 on
CBS. I don't know if she will sing, or how long she will be on. I plan
to tape it and try to capture a picture for the Picture Gallery.
Click here to see a special
report from Jim Allio about the coming "Grease Is the Word" CD from Rhino
Records!
From Jim Allio: Lesley sings "Look at Me, I'm Sandra
Dee" and "It's Raining on Prom Night" on the "Grease Is the Word" CD due
May 5th from Rhino Records. (I guess you'll have to get the "Canvas" album
if you want to hear her sing "You're the One That I Want".)
